A hungry child cannot learn. A sick child cannot thrive. Zango Foundation addresses nutrition and health at their roots — through feeding programs, health education, and mental health awareness that support the whole child.

Malnutrition and food insecurity are among the most persistent barriers to child development in Zambia. A child who arrives at school hungry cannot concentrate, learn, or participate. Our nutrition and health programs target this cycle directly — ensuring children are fed, healthy, and able to make the most of their education.
Zango's flagship nutrition initiative provides nutritious, fortified porridge to over 400 children three times per week. The program targets schools where food insecurity is highest, ensuring that the most vulnerable children receive a reliable, healthy meal to sustain them through the school day.
The impact is measurable: since the program launched, participating schools have reported improvements in attendance, concentration, and academic performance. When children know they will be fed, they come to school — and when they are nourished, they can truly learn.
Through partnership with the Green Sprout environmental program, produce grown in the Gaula Garden at Namabuyu Community School feeds directly into the Nourish to Flourish program. This creates a sustainable, locally-sourced nutrition pipeline that reduces dependence on external food donations.
Children who grow the food also eat the food — building pride, ownership, and a practical understanding of where nutrition comes from.
Good health is about more than food. Zango delivers community health education sessions covering personal hygiene, hand-washing practices, immunisation awareness, sexual and reproductive health for adolescents, and prevention of common childhood illnesses.
Sessions are led by trained volunteers and tailored to age groups, ensuring messaging is age-appropriate and culturally relevant. We work with local health authorities to align our education with national health priorities.
Mental health remains one of the most overlooked dimensions of child well-being in Zambia. Zango Foundation is committed to changing that. We run awareness sessions that normalise conversations about mental health, teach children coping strategies for stress and anxiety, and connect families with professional support where available.
For children who have experienced trauma, poverty, or loss, mental health support is not a luxury — it is essential. Our approach treats the whole child, not just their physical needs.

"Providing nutritious porridge to over 400 children three times a week has changed not just their health — it has changed their hope. Children who were absent now come every day."— Zango Foundation, Nourish to Flourish Program Report
Zango's nutrition and health programs directly support SDG 3 — ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages. Our feeding, health education, and mental health initiatives address multiple dimensions of child health, moving beyond treatment to prevention and empowerment.
Your partnership with Nourish to Flourish ensures more children arrive at school fed, healthy, and ready to learn. Every contribution counts.
