Background

Access to quality education in Zambia continues to be undermined by a simple but persistent barrier: many children cannot afford the basic supplies needed to attend school. Without bags, exercise books, or uniforms, children face exclusion, absenteeism, and shame. Zango Foundation's annual School Supplies Drive directly addresses this gap.

What We Did

In June 2025, Zango Foundation volunteers and staff conducted a targeted distribution of school bags, exercise books, pens, and uniforms to 400 pupils across schools in Chirundu district. The campaign was coordinated with local headteachers and community leaders to ensure supplies reached the most vulnerable children — including orphans, children from female-headed households, and students living furthest from school.

Zango also distributed 198 pairs of school shoes through the Creative Art Corner fundraising initiative, in which older students created and sold original artwork to fund the purchase of shoes for their younger peers.

Impact

  • 400 pupils received school bags, exercise books, and stationery
  • 198 children received new school shoes
  • Participating schools reported improved attendance in the weeks following the distribution
  • The Creative Art Corner program engaged older students as active fundraisers and community contributors

Looking Ahead

Zango Foundation plans to expand the school supplies campaign to additional districts in 2026, with the goal of reaching 1,000 pupils annually. We are actively seeking corporate sponsors and NGO partners to help scale this initiative. If you would like to support the next campaign, please get in touch.
